The Cariola Theatre once again dressed up and opened its red curtain to give way to the Cryptic Celebration in its seventh version featuring four bands remembered from national Doom Metal.
IIII
Punctual as a Swiss watchmaker, they step on stage IIII. With a thunderous start, the group begins to stomp on the stage with their Doom metal with touches of post hardcore being a revelation for the genre. They prove confident and their music is transmitted dark and somber. The heartbreaking screams accompany the instrumentation that slowly sneaks into the skin and invites you to a trance where the loose chords are the master of ceremonies. A journey between lWith slow tunings and more complex riffs, the sound passages navigate between dissonances of well-executed noise rock and the sepulchre weight of doom that explode in torn and powerful voices. A journey through his discography that included, among others, «Sceleratus”, “Élegos”, “Trivial”, «Judas”, “A Few Words» and «New Despair» turned her time on stage into a welcome to the Cryptic Celebration well deserved and the legitimate fruit of his talent.
Mortajas
Existentialism de Villa Alemana stops again on the stage of the Cariola to delight the audience with the best of national Doom metal in Spanish. Mortajas, who is preparing for his European tour, falls fully into the torpor that consumes us from beginning to end. Their silences are like sores on the skin that painfully run through each nerve fiber when listening to the first chord that resonates warm in the bowels. The group handles itself prodigiously on stage; the light at the hands of Willy Rojas it makes each member look enigmatic and that each note, in addition to being heard, can be seen in oscillating spectrums. The lyrics that accompany the painful songs vibrate palpitatingly while the instruments resonate perplexed in company.
The visceral sound testimony of Mortajas does not go unnoticed, gloomy it takes up the melodic sorrow and turns it into dense riffs that are released in dynamic lethargic vibrations. From his repertoire, «Fear and Pain» opens the slogan followed closely by «In the south of your Universe» as a presentation of what is coming to the future in the band’s discography.
They sound powerful and the vibrations can be felt in the feet of those who have arrived at the venue and it is that from Front of house, Miguel Toro He knows how to make each instrument shine on its own. Y Mortajas they also know it thanks to a career that makes them shine on stage. Mastery and talent reflected in songs that pierce the soul. The sound is neat and the feeling intense. Everything is connected through painful melodies that connect with a desire to transmit beyond the simple and every day. A melodic delight anoints the palpitation in the temples of those who listen to poetry transformed into music. “Masks”, “The Break» and «I have forgiven» complete the repertoire that is applauded by the faithful who have arrived early at the venue and who have had the honor of witnessing one of the key representatives of the Chilean Doom scene.
Poema Arcanvs
The red curtain opens again late at night, the Cariola Theatre feels full and the electricity is felt on the surface. With more than three decades of history Poema Arcanvs takes command and takes us on a journey of introspection and melancholy. The notes fall like leaves in autumn while the audience sings from the darkness. Its sound is complex and his highly sophisticated technique. The visceral gutturals of his songs seem to pierce the skin and touch every nerve fiber. “Raven Humankind”, “The lighthouse Keeper» and «Elegy» are performed with ease and professionalism; the kind that years of experience give you.
The dissonant compositions add to the power and strength of an instrumentation that seems fascinating; while the lyrics are rather philosophical, the strings and drums seem to converse intricately with each other in a dark and desolate dance. The vibration of the floor is constant and repeats itself like an echo that rises through the spinal cord until it reaches the depths of the being. It traps you and hypnotizes you. It slides you through every chord that is played to perfection. A dazzling passage through his discography is applauded by those present. “Nihil”, “Distances”, “Alter”, “Dreaming» and the inevitable «The Crawling Mirrors» completes a set of songs that leave little with pleasure but that are boasted by the fans who have remained loyal for all these years. Poema Arcanvs it is not only a reference for Chilean Doom, but it is a band that has shown that from the darkness you can make first-rate music and sustains itself for decades sounding technically impeccable and transmitting the purest of melancholy.
Mar de Grises
The darkness of the night has come and the sounds do not take long to be deep and somber in the same chord. Mar de Grises takes the stage and the fans applaud in unison to celebrate their passage through such an honorable platform. With a sound Modern, convoluted and powerful, the locals cover their discography that musically has been varying over the years. A history that is marked by the groundbreaking doom which adds tinges of progressive, synthesizers and an atmosphere that sometimes reminds you of a delicate and sublime post rock. The journey begins with «Starmaker”, “Shining Human Skin”, “The Bell and the Solar Gust”, “The Other» and «To See Saturn Fall» like a wave of compositions that make you shiver. The guttural tears are linked to the technique of the strings while from the background the drums deliver their own in a language that few can understand. The music works as a catharsis in those present who watch attentively and even nod to the sound of the heaviest riffs.
With the introduction of «Surrender to the Fall» The announcement of the next album and news that will be seen in the first quarter of next year is coming, which causes euphoria in the fans. This song feels intense and the presence of the drums firmly marks the steps of what will be their next studio work. The atmosphere created by Mar de Grises It’s unmatched, harmonious passages that collapse with intricate riffs and guttural heartbreaks that plunge into a kind of singular but unique rapture. A sublime chase of notes brings «Deep-Seeded Hope Avant-Garde”, “One Possessed”, “Sleep Just One Dawn» and the unsurpassed «Recklessness» who closes the show with the ovation of all those present.
A celebration like very few, a unique trance and an evening that will be marked in the conscience of all those who were present that night.
