Hoy, esa voz vuelve a pronunciarse.

MAR DE GRISES: THE ABYSS REOPENS ITS DOORS
More than a decade of silence did not manage to bury his name. Now, Mar de Grises Returns to Season of Mist to write a new chapter from the depths of a landscape that has never stopped hurting.
There are silences that do not mean absence, but something much more disturbing: the waiting for that which has not yet found a way to return. For years, the name of Mar de Grises remained suspended on that border, like a voice lost in the fog of the Pacific and the mountains that cross Chile. Today, that voice is pronounced again.
Formed in Santiago in 2000, the band became one of the fundamental proposals of South American extreme metal, bringing the Progressive death-doom towards territories where heaviness meets melancholy, cinematographic atmospheres and a sensitivity deeply linked to its geography. In his music, Chile was never a simple place of origin: it was a living presence, a force capable of shaping each composition.
The Andes, the Pacific Ocean, the southern cold of Cape Horn, the Valdivian forests and the immensity of the Atacama Desert found a reflection in their songs. Opposite landscapes, united by the same sense of isolation, where nature can be as majestic as it is indifferent to human fragility. Mar de Grises turned that contradiction into sound: riffs that seem to crawl under tons of stone, melodies suspended over desolation and progressive passages that expand the darkness until it becomes almost tangible.
His career reached an international dimension with Streams Inwards (2010), published by the French imprint Season of Mist, after his time with Firebox Records. The album consolidated his identity and opened the doors to tours with Sólstafir, Swallow the Sun and Saturnus, as well as presentations at festivals shared with essential names such as Opeth, Enslaved and Katatonia. The critics then recognized a unique proposal, capable of challenging the conventions of the genre without renouncing his own identity.
But then came the silence. More than ten years without a new studio album left a question hanging among those who followed his career: What form would the music of Mar de Grises if one day it re-emerged?
The answer begins to take shape with the band’s official return to Season of Mist, who will release their long-awaited fourth album in 2027. According to the group, the new compositions continue to explore the contrasts of Chilean territory, from the Andes to the Pacific, from the desert to Tierra del Fuego. The band anticipates a dark and cinematic work, conceived to push the limits of their musical language again.
It is not simply a matter of recovering an interrupted history. Returning after so long implies facing everything that changed, what disappeared and what remained intact under the surface. In this sense, the return of Mar de Grises seems coherent with its own nature: a music that has never understood darkness as a definitive destination, but as a territory that can still reveal something unknown.
The abyss does not always return what it takes.
Sometimes, however, he retains a voice for years until he finds the right moment to release it.
And the comeback won’t happen far from home. Next week, the band will headline Cryptic Celebration VII in Santiago, before accompanying Opeth as an opening act. An opportunity to reconnect with an audience that has kept its memory alive and to remember that, even after years of stillness, certain underground currents never stop moving.
Mar de Grises is back.
And if its new chapter is born from the same geographical and emotional wounds that defined its history, perhaps we are not facing the end of a silence, but the beginning of a new form of darkness.
